Dr. Jeffrey Rathmell is the Molecular Pathology and Immunology Associate Director, Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Immunobiology, and Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Immunobiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Rathmell studies mechanisms by which extracellular cues influence lymphocyte death and differentiation in efforts to control inflammatory diseases and leukemia. Their work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative involving the fields of immunology, cancer biology, and cell metabolism. They use genetic and biochemical approaches with a goal to understand and exploit the specific metabolic programs of each cell type or activation state and selectively modulate effector lymphocytes in inflammatory diseases and cancer.
